CNC Fabrication System (Studio Development)
he CNC machine developed within the studio is both a fabrication tool and an ongoing research project. Designed and assembled in-house, the machine reflects a direct engagement with the mechanics of making, where engineering, material understanding, and sculptural practice intersect.
Built to support experimentation across sculpture, prototyping, and architectural fabrication, the system allows for precision cutting, carving, and large-scale material processing while remaining adaptable to evolving creative needs. Rather than relying exclusively on standardized industrial systems, the machine was developed through an iterative process of testing, modification, calibration, and hands-on problem solving.
The project embodies an interest in understanding fabrication not only as output, but as methodology. Every component—from structural assembly to motion systems and tooling—became part of a broader exploration into how machines can be shaped around artistic workflows and material behaviors.
Integrated into the studio environment, the CNC machine supports a range of processes including layered fabrication, mold making, sculptural carving, form studies, and custom prototyping. Its presence within the studio establishes a closer relationship between digital modeling and physical production, allowing ideas to move fluidly from concept to material realization.
More than a machine, the system represents a commitment to self-directed fabrication, experimentation, and the development of tools that evolve alongside the creative process itself.
